Forest Park Beach 2008 Season
Pavilion rentals at Forest Park
Beach during the 2008 season will not be available until
June 28, 2008. The Fire Circle will also not be available
for rental during this time. These temporary changes are
necessary because the North Shore Sanitary District project
began late February 2007 to improve its
lakefront pumping station. It is anticipated that the
project will be complete by the late spring of 2008. A
description follows of this major project, which is being
solely funded by North Shore Sanitary District.
During this project, the upper South parking lot will be used for boat launch
patrons only. This includes truck and trailer, boat compound
and boat rack users.
There will be NO South Beach parking passes sold and boat
launch patrons WILL NOT be allowed to purchase extra decals
due to the tight parking situation.

NSSD Lakefront Project
The North Shore Sanitary District (NSSD), with the
cooperation of City, will soon begin construction of its
$8.6 million dollar environmental improvement project at its
lakefront pumping station located at south end Forest Park.
The project includes construction of a two-million gallon
below-grade sewage storage basin, an electrical and odor
control building, minor modifications to the existing
pumping station, and parking lot and access road
restorations.
Construction of the sewage storage basin and associated
environmental improvements is anticipated to began in
February 2007 and be completed in June 2008. The storage
capacity provided by the new basin will reduce the
likelihood of future sewage overflows to Lake Michigan.
Overflows have occurred in the past due to excessive
influent flows during wet weather and loss of power from the
electrical utility.
The new storage basin will also allow the pumping station
to be taken offline to proactively analyze and implement
force main repairs before potential failures occur. This
project demonstrates the sound investment the NSSD and the
City continue to make to protect the community’s
environmental resources. |
