Lake Forest Sailing Programs

Weather Station Summary ] Weather Station Table ]

We offer the most comprehensive sailing program on Lake Michigan. Lake Forest Sailing will provide opportunities to sailors of all ages and ability levels, from beginners to aspiring National Champions in dinghies and keelboats.

Lake Forest Sailing offers a program that will allow a seven-year-old novice to enter and continue indefinitely. Our fleet allows sailors to continue recreationally, but also excel in racing. Our racing teams (Junior, High School, College, Keelboat) will travel and compete both regionally and nationally, twelve months a year. Hurry to get your registrations in now! To download a Registration Form. MEET OUR STAFF

Joe Harris - Sailing Director
Joey Harris comes to Lake Forest Sailing bringing a great deal of talent and experience. In 1999 he was awarded the US Sailing Sportsmanship award which is a great honor. Joey has had much success as both a sailor and as a coach. He has lead many teams to national and international championships. This graduate of University of Rhode Island ran Colombia Yacht Club’s junior sailing program for a decade before moving out to California. While in California Joey had the pleasure of working with such clubs as St. Francis Yacht Club, and Cal Maritime. He shortly found his way back to the Midwest by way of Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. Joey is a US sailing Level I and II Instructor Trainer and is on the US Sailing National Board. He is excited to be back in the Chicago area and can’t wait for another great season.

Hunter Ratliff - Race Team Coordinator
Hunter Ratliff joins the Lake Forest Sailing Team with a lot of talent and enthusiasm. He has an extensive sailing and racing background. Hunter started sailing in Holland Michigan at the young age of 6. He soon moved to Chicago in the summers and sailed for Chicago Yacht Club for the rest of his junior sailing. He continued sailing for Marquette University throughout his college career. He has coached for the past 5 years and has coached sailors on the local, national, and international levels. Hunter continues to sail as much as he can when he is not coaching. His most recent credit was the top American finisher at the 2005 Laser2 World Championship. He is very stoked to be apart of such a great program.
